England reach Netball World Cup semi-finals with win over South Africa

Tracey Neville's England side reach the semi-finals of the Netball World Cup with a 62-46 victory over South Africa.

England will fight for a place in the final of the Netball World Cup after sealing a 62-46 victory over South Africa in their crucial pool match in Sydney.

After beating Wales on Wednesday, the Roses headed into their deciding clash against South Africa as favourites.

It was a wobbly start for Tracey Neville's side as they were 4-1 down inside five minutes, but they managed to resume focus to take a 10-7 lead in the first quarter, with Helen Housby impressing on the goal front.

After the opening quarter, Housby, who was replaced by Pamela Cookey at goal attack, netted eight times to help England take a 16-8 lead.

By half time, the Roses gave themselves an 11-goal cushion, but the fiery second quarter was interrupted when the umpire had to have words with wing defence Serena Guthrie following some rude remarks.

South Africa took control of the third quarter by shooting 15 goals, but it was not enough to trouble their opponents as England had a 10-point lead with one quarter remaining.

England are likely to face unbeaten New Zealand in the semi-finals.
