Tottenham Hotspur are confident that club captain Son Heung-min will soon sign a new deal, according to a report.

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly confident that Son Heung-min will sign a new deal at the club.

The 31-year-old's existing contract at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is due to expire next summer, and there has recently been speculation surrounding his future in North London.

Son is not believed to have any plans to move on, though, and according to Football Insider, Spurs are confident that they will be able to sign him to a new deal in the not too distant future.

Tottenham have the option to extend the South Korea international's contract for a further 12 months until June 2026, strengthening their position when it comes to the forward's future.

It is understood that there have already been discussions over a new deal, and all parties are optimistic that an agreement will be reached.

Son Heung-min 'set to sign new deal at Tottenham'

Son, who was appointed Tottenham captain last summer, has scored 16 goals and registered nine assists in 32 appearances at club level during the 2023-24 campaign.

The forward has been unable to prevent his side from suffering three straight losses in England's top flight, though, which has dented their chances of finishing in the top four.

Ange Postecoglou's side were last victorious in the league against Nottingham Forest on April 7 and have since been beaten by Newcastle United, Arsenal and Chelsea, conceding nine times in the process.

The results have left Spurs in fifth position in the Premier League table, seven points behind fourth-placed Aston Villa, who have played a game more.

Tottenham will need to finish fourth in order to make next season's Champions League, as it has been confirmed that there will not be a fifth spot for English clubs in the 2024-25 competition.

Tottenham are looking to bounce back against Liverpool

Spurs will head to Liverpool in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon, before taking on Burnley, Manchester City and Sheffield United in their final three matches of the campaign.

Postecoglou said ahead of the clash at Anfield that his side are "a long way off" the likes of Liverpool, Man City and Arsenal but claimed that the capital outfit can still "challenge next year".

"We're a long way off but it doesn't mean we can't challenge next year. I don't know which other way to put it. I think in terms of the team I want us to be we're a fair way off, but I am not dismissing the fact that we have to be competitive and challenge for success every year I am here," said the manager during his press conference.

"I am not going to dismiss any year as just a building year. Every year is a building year to get to where we want to, but it is also an opportunity for us to have success. As it was this year and we've fallen short of that."

Spurs have not been victorious away from home since a 4-0 success over Villa on March 10, picking up just one point from their last four matches on their travels.
